Send Silence Packing (SSP) is an award-winning exhibit that travels the country to end the silence that surrounds mental health and suicide.
The exhibit will be on Illinois State University’s campus from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, at Schroeder Plaza (with a rain location of Old Main in the Bone Student Center).
The aim of the event is to inspire action for suicide prevention. The exhibit is a display of tables with educational resources on mental health, suicide, and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. It will include information for survivors, backpacks with more than 250 personal stories and photos affixed, signage, educational flyers, brand buttons and stickers for giveaways, and T-shirts for volunteers. It also includes a virtual experience that explores the impact of suicide through story sharing and interactive prompt cards to be completed by participants along with a program journal that travels with the exhibit and provides space for interactive reflection and direct support from the Active Minds National Office, among others.
Send Silence Packing is championed by Active Minds, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization supporting mental health promotion and education for students. SSP has displayed over 300 times throughout the country and has reached over a million visitors with messages of hope and help. It also connects people to mental health resources for support and tangible action steps.
