University Farm Manager Jason Lindbom and farm staff members Garrett Conaty, William Marquardt, and Jessica Sholtes have been awarded Illinois State University Living Our Values Awards.

The Living Our Values Awards recognize individuals and groups that exemplify Illinois State’s core values of Learning and Scholarship, Diversity and Inclusion, Respect, Collaboration, Individualized Attention, Civic Engagement, and Integrity, as spelled out in Educate Connect Elevate: Illinois State – The Strategic Plan for Illinois’ First Public University 2018-2023. The awards celebrate the commitment to live the University’s values every day and strengthen the campus community by sharing those values.

The team was nominated based on the value of Collaboration. Lindbom and his staff were among those who responded to the November 18, 2022, fire at the 800-foot-long cattle barn at the farm. “Jason Lindbom and members of his staff were instrumental in ensuring the safety of the beef herd,” said Dean of the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) Todd McLoda, who nominated the team for the award. “We had no animal injuries or loss of life, and I am grateful to the staff for their collaborative approach to the emergency.”

People across CAST and the community worked together to combat the fire. Read more on the efforts of University Farm staff in response to the fire

Nominees for the Living Our Values awards can be any current Illinois State student, faculty, or staff member, or a group of people at Illinois State working toward a program or initiative that reflects the core values.
